The Ruhrpott has often offered fertile ground for good hard/metalcore from German lands. Just two examples from different “eras”: True Blue and AYS.

Concerts in this area are also usually particularly well attended – and only when this is the case does something like a “scene” flourish. The members of Contra have also been part of this community for years: They draw from their experiences with Copykill, Fallbrawl and In Blood We Trust, among others. FALSE GODS may be the band’s debut album, but there is no question of a lack of maturity, too little flair or initial restraint. The production by Caliban guitarist Marc Görtz makes the debut competitive with the colleagues from overseas. A few nice solos, a pleasant balance of breakdowns and speed as well as a powerful shouter always provide variety.

Even if the wheel is not reinvented, the German scene can be happy about this band: A real enrichment!
